Wood finishing packs

The Wood Finishing Packs have been developed especially for use in completing the miniature furniture kits which I sell as components in my stitching kits. For years, it has bothered me that people who make miniature furniture have to buy large tins/jars/bottles of varnishes, waxes, etc, when really they only need a tiny bit! So, I have put together these Wood Finishing Packs which contain everything you need to finish the doll's house furniture kits, in tiny bottles and jars which are plenty for the job in hand, but which will save you having to buy large amounts that you simply will never use up.

There is one available for waxing the mahogany wood kits (for instance, the footstools and tea trays), and one for staining the whitewood kits an oak colour (for instance, the dining chairs and rectangular stools). Mahogany wax wood finishing pack

This pack provides materials in small quantities, so that you can finish any kit which contains mahogany parts, such as the traycloth kits and footstool kits.

Contents of the pack:

  • Wood glue, 7.5ml
  • Boiled linseed oil, 7.5ml
  • Mahogany wax, 6ml
  • Clear wax, 6ml
  • White spirit, 7.5ml
  • 4 cotton buds
  • 2 cocktail sticks
  • Wire wool, 2" x 2" square

The waxes, used as a mixture, will be enough to do two coats on an area the size of an A4 piece of paper.

Oak varnish wood finishing pack

This pack provides materials in small quantities, so that you can finish any kit which contains whitewood parts, such as the rectangular stool kits and dining chair kits.

Contents of the pack:

  • Wood glue, 7.5ml
  • Oak gloss varnish, 7.5ml
  • Clear gloss varnish, 7.5ml
  • White spirit, 7.5ml
  • Sand paper, 3" x 2"

The Oak gloss varnish is enough to do two coats on four doll’s house dining chairs.

Canvas and gauze pieces for miniature embroidery

We supply pieces of 18 count canvas and 22 count canvas, and also silk gauze in a range of counts from 32 to 112, cut to the sizes as listed below. If you want a different size, we can arrange that with you - just email us with the dimensions.

If you prefer to work from charts and use your own wools or threads, and adapt designs to suit yourself, these pieces provide a way to get just enough for one project.

There is a FREE Online Tutorial which shows in detail how to mount silk gauze to make it easy to stitch with an even tension.

This is the same canvas that we use in our carpet kits. It is supplied 13 inches wide, so that it can be fitted on a rectangular roller frame. We recommend the use of a frame, as it helps prevent distortion and makes the canvas easier to sew.

A thin, colourless fabric glue, which we recommend for use when finishing some curved edged carpets, such as Bella, the oval Kate carpets, Theresa, or the Tigerskin rug. It bonds the fabric fibres together invisibly, making it safe to trim an edge without it fraying.
